- Clean the Platen Glass: Are unsightly black streaks marring your copied documents? It’s time to give the platen glass on your multifunctional printer some attention. Start by ensuring your device is powered down and unplugged. Next, apply glass cleaner to a lint-free cloth and gently clean the glass surface. Allow ample time for surfaces to dry before plugging the device back in.
- Check Toner or Ink Levels: If your document’s ink coverage fades from one side of the page to the other, low toner or ink levels might be the culprit. Examine your cartridge levels; it may be time for a replacement.
- Use High-Resolution Image Files: Do images on your prints appear blurry while text remains crisp? Investigate your image files. Low-resolution image files can give the illusion of blurriness or pixelation. Aim for image files with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi for improved print quality.
- Opt for Smooth Paper: While textured paper has its place in certain print jobs, be selective when choosing paper with intricate textures. The greater the texture, the higher the risk of toner flaking or ink smudging. Consult your printer’s user manual for recommended paper specifications before opting for heavily textured or thicker paper, such as cardstock.

- Address Leaky Toner Cartridges: If you spot excess toner smears on your printed pages, you might have a leaky toner cartridge on your hands. These leaks can create a mess not only on your documents but also inside the printer. Start by carefully removing the problematic cartridge and gently wiping away any dust or toner residue with a dry cloth. If excess toner has infiltrated the printer’s interior, a specialized vacuum designed for capturing fine dust, like toner powder, can help.
