Lexmark printers

Lexmark makes laser printers and multifunction printers for home offices and businesses. Each model uses specific toner cartridges, and many also use a separate imaging unit or drum. Choosing the right cartridge helps your printer produce consistent prints.

Lexmark OEM cartridges

OEM (original equipment manufacturer) cartridges are made by Lexmark for its own printers. A Lexmark toner cartridge contains many parts that work together with the printer to transfer toner onto the page. OEM cartridges are designed for specific Lexmark models and usually cost more than compatible cartridges.

Compatible cartridges

Compatible cartridges are made by third parties to fit Lexmark printers. They usually cost less than OEM cartridges. Print results and page yields can vary between manufacturers, so check the product details before you buy. Each product page states whether the item is a Lexmark OEM cartridge or a compatible cartridge.

Check the part number

Lexmark part numbers can look similar but differ in yield and in the type of cartridge. Find the part number on your current cartridge, in the printer manual, or on the printer's settings page, and match it exactly. Common versions include:

  • Standard yield and high yield: high yield cartridges print more pages and often cost less per page.
  • Return programme cartridges: some Lexmark cartridges are sold under a return programme, which means the empty cartridge is meant to be returned to Lexmark for recycling.

Check the region

Many Lexmark printers are set up for cartridges from a particular region. A cartridge intended for another region may look the same and have a similar part number, but the printer may not accept it. Check that the cartridge matches the region your printer was sold in. If you are not sure, the printer's documentation or settings page can help.

Imaging units and other parts

Some Lexmark printers use a separate OEM or compatible imaging unit, which lasts longer than a toner cartridge. When your printer asks for a new imaging unit, replace only that part.

Find the right cartridge

You can browse Lexmark toner cartridges by printer model. If you are unsure which cartridge fits your printer, you can send your printer model to support@maxiprint.co.za.
